WHO WE ARE

The Arc of Adams County is an independent advocacy organization serving individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) within Adams County.

It is a local chapter of The Arc of Colorado and The Arc of the United States. We are here to empower individuals and families to receive the services and supports they need to live to their potential.

OUR MISSION

Since 1962, it has been the mission of The Arc of Adams County to protect, preserve, and promote the human and civil rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively support their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.

OUR VISION

A world where all people with disabilities belong, have equal rights, make their own choices and live their best lives.

WHO WE SERVE

People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). IDD is a medical and neurological diagnosis. The Colorado definition of IDD meets the following criteria:

  • Diagnosis has occurred before the age of 22
  • IQ of 70 or less (as measured by specific testing/evaluations) and/or
  • Adaptive (daily living) skills that are equivalent to an IQ score of 70 or less (as measured by specific testing)
We ensure that people with IDD have the services and supports they need to become valued, contributing members of their communities and achieve their dreams.

We offer a variety of supports for individuals and their families residing in Adams County. Efforts are focused in the following areas:

  • Individual Advocacy
  • Policy & Legislative Advocacy
  • Non-Attorney Advocates

Arc Thrift Connection

For over 50 years, arc Thrift Stores has been an integral part of communities, offering more than just affordable shopping. From the humble beginnings of their first store in Colorado in 1968, to their multiple retail locations today, their mission is to enhance the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

arc Thrift Stores is one of the state’s largest employers of people with IDD. Store programs touch the lives of thousands of people every year.

The proceeds generated through the sale of gently used clothing and household items are distributed to local Arc chapters, such as us, The Arc of Adams County.

Arc Chapter Affiliations

There are 15 chapters of The Arc in Colorado including the state chapter and 14 local chapters serving designated geographic areas. Local chapters provide individual advocacy services for children and adults with intellectual developmental disabilities who live in their service areas. They also provide information and referral services, public policy support, community education and more. Membership in a local chapter of The Arc includes membership in The Arc of Colorado and The Arc of the United States.
